First Correll Scholar graduates

On May 9, Stephan Young graduated from the University of West Georgia, becoming the first Correll Scholar to do so in the program’s history. Founded in 2015 by A.D “Pete” and Ada Lee Correll, the Correll Scholars Program provides scholarships to talented Glynn County high school graduates who are members of the Elizabeth F. Correll Teen Center and are pursuing a post-secondary degree through one of Georgia’s public academic or technical colleges. The scholarship is managed by the Coastal Georgia Foundation.

Ellen Fleming, Board member and academic leader, dies

With deep sorrow, we share the news of the passing of Coastal Georgia Foundation Board member Ellen Fleming. Ellen served the Foundation for over six years with compassion, thoughtfulness and leadership.

Her funeral will take place at St. Simons Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 12, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has collaborated to create the Frederica Academy Ellen Fleming Memorial Fund for those who want to express their sympathy. Gifts may also be made to the St. Simons Presbyterian Church in Ellen's memory.

Financial Overview

In 2021, The Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation (CCGF) invested more than $3.9 million in grants throughout Camden, Glynn, and McIntosh counties. From our founding in 2005 through 2021, CCGF has distributed over $22.5 million in grants across a broad range of programs, services, and opportunities. Our investment in hundreds of nonprofits in our area strengthens and underscores our mission to build a better community. The images below highlight our activity through the end of 2021:

How We Work

The Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation (CCGF) is a tax-exempt public foundation created by, and for, the people of Camden, Glynn, and McIntosh counties.  Community foundations enable people with philanthropic interests to easily and effectively support those interests.  

Rising Sea Level Event: Presentations and Video

The room was full on January 22 at the "Rising Sea Level Predictions: What They Might Mean for Glynn County" event.  Thank you to our panelists: Kim Cobb and Russ Clark, Jill Gambill, Jennifer Kline, Jimmy Junkin, Charles Ezelle and Mason Waters. These experts provided scientific information as well as perspective on interpreting, understanding and utilizing the data.

Upcoming Scholarship Deadline, March 1

The Correll Scholars Program of the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation had a deadline of February 1 which was moved to March 1 for this year only. Applicants must be Glynn County high school graduates pursuing a two- or four-year degree at one of Georgia’s public universities, and who are also members of the Elizabeth F. Correll Teen Center of the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Georgia.

Foundation increases grantmaking by 30 percent in 2018

The Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation is excited to report that it made grants totaling $2,952,683 in 2018.*

“In 2018, we increased our grantmaking by 30 percent over the previous year,” says Foundation President and CEO Paul White. “This is a testament to the generosity of this community, our fundholders and the quality of nonprofit work being done in this area.”

The Foundation is made up of over 70 funds – donor-advised funds representing the majority – and its grantmaking is directed by its Board, Grants Committee, and fund holders. The Foundation staff is knowledgeable about the issues that are critically important to this community, and it works with its partners to make strategic and collaborative philanthropic decisions.

“We are privileged to work with many knowledgeable and passionate donors and fundholders who seek to make an impact through meaningful and measurable philanthropy,” says Board Chairman Jack Kilgore. “Their vision alongside the Foundation’s expertise really drive these numbers.”
