The Southeastern Council of Foundations represents over 350 grant making foundations ranging from small family foundations to corporate and community foundations in eleven southeastern states.
In August, SECF named Lee Owen, executive director of the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation as the Georgia delegate to its community foundation committee. The committee is charged with recommending policy and programs pertinent to community foundations to the SECF board of directors.
“This is a great honor for me, being so new to the community foundation field,” explained our director. “What makes this philanthropic sector so great, especially in the South, is the camaraderie among foundation executives. We share and learn so much from each other’s experience. I see my role in this committee as bringing issues that are common to many of the community foundations in Georgia to the table and then helping create networking channels, formal and informal learning opportunities, and resources to examine the issues and create viable responses.” Lee will also chair the Georgia Regional Council of Community Foundations at the SECF annual meeting in Asheville, NC in November.
