ON MAY 15th, an estimated 400,000 nonprofit organizations could lose their tax exempt status due to a provision in the Pension Protection Act of 2006. Previously, only organizations with revenues of $25,000 or more were required to file; however, the new provision required that all nonprofits begin filing tax forms, regardless of revenue. It's expected that one-fifth to one-quarter of nonprofits will be impacted, though experts say many of those organizations are now inactive and simply did not notify the IRS upon the organization's closing.

Community Foundation Hosts Third Annual Founders’ Event

On Thursday, March 25^th, the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation hosted a reception and presentation for founders, fund holders and friends.  The event, held at the A. W. Jones Heritage Center on St. Simons Island, attracted over 60 supporters, friends, professional advisors, and education and nonprofit professionals.  A report to the community on accomplishments in 2009 was coupled with the launching of an educational initiative…

The Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation, in partnership with Family Connection-Glynn, Georgia Center for Nonprofits, United Way of Camden County and United Way of Coastal Georgia, is pleased to present the results of a community needs assessment conducted in Camden, Glynn and McIntosh counties in the summer of 2009.  This report represents a collaborative effort to present both current statistical data and citizen input on our communities' greatest assets as well as current challenges and pressing needs.  It represents a significant step in creating a broad collaborative partnership of key community organizations -- a collaborative that will continue as we seek to address the issues presented here.  Please read more to access the documents.
