Coastal Georgia CLCP Executive Director:  Karen Byrd

Karen Byrd has been an educator for that past 34 years. She was born in Rome, Georgia and received a Bachelor's of Education Degree in Early Childhood Education from what was then Georgia Southern College. She moved to Brunswick in 1974 to student teach at Goodyear Elementary, which led to her employment by the Glynn County School System as a third grade teacher. She continued her education and earned both a Master's and Education Specialist's Degree in Early Childhood Education. She also received certification in Leadership and English as a Second Language (ESOL). As an educator she had held many positions including classroom teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, and Assistant Principal. Following her official retirement in 2007, she returned to the classroom as an ESOL teacher. Karen is an active member of her church as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She resides in Brunswick with her three adult children and two grandsons.
